Southern-Gothic Post-Apocalypse: See Oceans of Slumber's New "The Lighthouse" Video

Moody visual tackles "evangelical south's dangerous religious leanings"

Oceans of Slumber are set to release their new prog-metal opus, Starlight and Ash, on Century Media this summer. And if the video for "The Lighthouse," their third single off the album, is any indication, then fans are in for a moody gothic epic. The Houston-based group has a talent for capturing the swaggering, sweltering humidity of their hometown, and in this visual, the band captures the emotional journey of a charismatic cult leader in the post-apocalypse.

"The Lighthouse" seethes with the brooding, melancholy goth-country vibes of Nick Cave, while vocalist Cammy Beverly's powerful voice thunders pain and tribulation.

"In true story-telling fashion, 'The Lighthouse' evokes the frenzied emotions of the evangelical south's dangerous religious leanings," Beverly said about the song and video. "Leading with an ominous gospel, 'The Lighthouse' is a song as dark and atmospheric as the humid air that hangs heavy in our region."

Starlight and Ash is due out July 22nd via Century Media and is currently available for pre-order.
