Tenacious D Announce New Album and YouTube Series 'Post-Apocalypto'

Dave Grohl drums on the D's first album in 6 years

Jack Black just released the first look at the long-awaited sequel to Tenacious D's 2006 cult classic The Pick of Destiny. In a short clip posted on his personal Instagram page, Black reveals the title to the YouTube exclusive limited series set for a September 28th release: Post Apocalypto. The teaser shows a series of crude drawings — reportedly, all hand-drawn by Black himself — while he and his musical partner Kyle Gass narrate, asking, "What have we done ... to mother Earth?!"

Per a press release, Post-Apocalypto "finds Tenacious D thrust into a world of complete and utter destruction following the drop of an atomic bomb. Surviving the attack in classic cinematic fashion (a good old imperishable 1950's refrigerator), the duo quickly learns that new forms of evil have spawned from the blast. One thing becomes apparent — for humanity to prevail, Tenacious D must save the world."

The film The Pick of Destiny was considered a box office flop following its theatrical release 12 years ago. Pulling in only $14 million in ticket sales despite its $20 million budget, the movie (which features cameos from Dave Grohl and Ronnie James Dio) caught on with audiences following its DVD release and eventually made over $10 million on DVD sales alone. An album of the same name was released the same year as the film, and the comedy-rock duo plan to follow the same formula this time around, with the Post-Apocalypto album — featuring Dave Grohl on drums — dropping a bit later on November 2nd.

You can pre-order the album here, and check out a full list of upcoming tour dates on the Tenacious D official site
