As promised in an Instagram post on Monday, July 29th, Tool's catalog — specifically, the group's debut EP, Opiate, and subsequent albums, Undertow, Ænima, Lateralus and 10,000 Days — are finally available to stream and purchase digitally. Until now, the revered band has stood as one of the last major holdouts from the digital music marketplace. That all has ended, and like the Beatles, Metallica, AC/DC, Radiohead and Led Zeppelin before them, Tool have joined the fray. The digital debut of the group's discography comes less than a month ahead of the beyond-highly anticipated release of Tool's fifth album, Fear Inoculum, due on August 30th.
"Our obsession with, and dream of, a world where BetaMax and Laser Disc rule has ended," Maynard James Keenan commented on the move with typical sardonic humor. "Time for us to move on. But never fear. There's a brand new thing we think you're really gonna dig. It's called Digital Downloads and Streaming. Get ready for the future, folks!"
