Tool recently extended their North American tour in support of their smash album Fear Inoculum, adding another leg spanning from January 10th in San Diego, California, to February 1st in New Orleans. Now, the opener for those dates has been revealed, and it's none other than one-man industrial-doom band and Revolver favorite Author & Punisher. The brain child of San Diego, California–based mechanical engineer and artist Tristan Shone, the project has been kicking around the underground since 2004. It's garner plenty of attention in that time due to the fact that most of the instruments and controllers used in creating the music — gear that Shone refers to as "Drone Machines" and "Dub Machines" — are custom designed and fabricated by him from raw materials and with open source electronic circuitry. The band's most recent album, Beastland, was released in 2018 via Relapse Records; its previous two, 2015's Melk En Honing and 2017's Pressure Mine, were issued by Philip Anselmo's label Housecore.

"This is a huge honor that I don't take lightly," Shone commented on being tapped for the Tool tour. "I don't always get to take the full arsenal of drone machines due to their weight and pain but certainly on this run, everything is in play. I love you all and I'm sorry for future back pain and inevitable hearing loss."
