It's been over 25 years since Tool released 1992's seminal EP Opiate. In an Instagram post yesterday, November 7th, guitarist Adam Jones posted that the band has re-recorded the EP's beloved title track, which Tool reworked for their live shows earlier this year, and even shot a music video for the new rendition. "We wrote a different break down that's about five minutes longer in the middle of the song," Jones wrote of the expanded take. "I believe there are recent versions of it online." There's still no word on if or when the updated "Opiate" will be released, or if it'll be packaged with Tool's long-awaited 10,000 Days follow-up. In the meantime, you can check out the group's performance of the extended version at this year's Governors' Ball above.

Tool commemorated Opiate's 21st anniversary back in 2013 with a limited-edition reissue featuring new packaging and stereoscopic artwork. Jones hinted at the possibility of reworked material in a contemporaneous Revolver interview. "Creatively speaking, there's always room for improvement," he remarked. "Playing some of those songs live 21 years later, you've obviously evolved. And now Justin [Chancellor, bass] is in the band, which makes it that much different and better."
