TOOL's Adam Jones Unveils New Gibson USA Les Paul Standard Guitar

Updated ax is new take on Jones' original Silverburst 1979 Gibson Les Paul

TOOL's Adam Jones loves his Silverburst 1979 Gibson Les Paul. The instrument, which he says is "one of my top favorite guitars of all time," has been his No. 1 guitar for years and his mainstay ax for the band's ongoing Fear Inoculum live actions.

In 2020, Jones announced his partnership with Gibson Custom Shop for his first-ever signature guitar, fittingly, a replica of his prized Silverburst. Last year, the team dropped the V2 "Aged And Signed" 79 Les Paul signature, which was limited to only 79 instruments.

Today, Jones and Gibson have unveiled their third collaboration: the Adam Jones Les Paul Standard from Gibson USA. Like previous versions, the new Les Paul Standard is modeled after Jones' OG Silverburst Les Paul.

The new model is finished in Antique Silverburst and its features include an ebony fretboard with mother-of-pearl trapezoid inlays and Grover Rotomatic tuners with contemporary style buttons, chrome-covered Burstbucker (neck position), uncovered DC High Gain Humbucker (bridge position), and controls hand-wired with Orange Drop capacitors. The Adam Jones Les Paul Standard boasts Jones' signature on the truss rod cover and custom Adam Jones artwork on the back of the headstock and comes with a modern hardshell case.

Adam was hands-on in re-creating the new guitar and spent time working with Gibson's luthiers in Nashville, TN. For the 2020 premiere of the Gibson Custom Shop Adam Jones Les Paul Custom, Adam even composed and scored a new song "The Witness" and created a special animated short film to the song.
