After 10-plus years, the wait for new Tool music is over — last night, May 5th, the prog-metal giants played two new songs during their Welcome to Rockville headlining set: "Invincible" and "Descending" (the latter which they've previously previewed onstage in an abridged instrumental form).
The cuts, which presumably will appear on the band's forthcoming highly anticipated fifth LP, exceeded fans expectations, and immediately kicked off close readings of singer Maynard James Keenan's cryptic lines.
"Invincible" and "Descending" are currently only available via fan-filmed footage of the Jacksonville concert, so it's impossible to get a pristine 100-percent accurate take on Keenan's lyrics, especially for "Descending." But that hasn't stopped the masses from offering up their best interpretations. Welcome to Rockville was the band's first date on their spring tour. So as they continue their trek, we'll likely get a better portrait of the lyrics.
