"Put a soul singer or a maraca or a tambourine on," Turnstile bassist/vocalist Franz Lyons told us in February, speaking of his hardcore group's limitless sound, as heard on this year's excellent Time & Space LP. "I feel like we're not setting any parameters on what can happen with our music." Considering this outlook, Lyons — who is also known for his rapper alter ego "Freaky Franz" — and his bandmates surely felt very much at home playing Made in America festival Sunday (September 2nd), despite its hip-hop– and EDM-heavy lineup, led by Kendrick Lamar, Nicki Minaj, Post Malone and Diplo, the last of whom actually contributed to Time & Space's "Right to Be." Turnstile threw down hard, and won over more than a few new fans in the process. Photographer Angela Owens was there in Philly with them to catch all the action.
