Back in the summer of 2008, the inaugural Mayhem Fest brought a stacked lineup of heavy hitters across the U.S. The masked Iowan mad men of Slipknot headlined the tour, which also hosted, on one of the side stages, Floridian metalcore leaders Underoath. Having grown up watching the 'Knot's rise and reign, vocalist Spencer Chamberlain is a big fan. Below, he picks his favorite Slipknot song and explains why the Vol. 3 cut "urges me to push myself harder, not get comfortable."

"Before I Forget"

The song just kills, but for me it was the video that song it. I liked how it had the "unmasked" feel. It was raw, heavy and real. I heard a story that when they went to track this record, they locked themselves in a rehearsal space much like the one in the video. After doing so, they turned the AC off and pretty much tortured themselves in the heat while writing. Seeing this video or just hearing the track urges me to push myself harder, not get comfortable, and dig deep for emotion when writing. "Fray the strings/Throw the shapes/Hold your breath/Listen!"
