Watch Cusses Unleash Divine, Sludgy Meditation on Love, Loss in New Video

Savannah, Georgia, rockers invoke Soundgarden, No Doubt on latest single "Critical"

Cusses is a strange, beautiful beast of a band. The Savannah, Georgia, act has been kicking around for nearly a decade now, and today they're premiering their new video for "Critical," from their forthcoming album Golden Rat, due out August 30.

The song is a study in what the band does best: balance darkness, light and sludgy guitar riffs. Singer Angel Bond lilts the song in its first verse, her vocals becoming enchanting over the guitar work. When it kicks up to its chorus, it goes all out rock & roll, Bond's voice a spitfire of power. The black-and-white visuals assist the song's vision, surreal and spectral imagery clashing together with the group rocking together in a church. It invokes the spirit of a range of different bands, from Soundgarden to No Doubt. It's heavy, pretty, and will haunt you for a time to come.

"The loss of a lot of family and close ones has made me feel a good push to move closer to family for a while," Bond told Connect Savannah, adding that the two young girls featured in the video were played by her cousins. "We decided to film family that were dear to us and carried the message of love that inspired the song."
