Watch Down's Crushing 1995 Full Show in Dallas, Texas

Stoner-metal supergroup proved their mettle with epic 13-song set

On September 21st, 1995, Down were riding high on the release of their debut album, NOLA, just two days before. The New Orleans sludge-metal supergroup — featuring vocalist Philip Anselmo, guitarists Pepper Keenan and Kirk Windstein, drummer Jimmy Bower and, at the time, bassist Todd Strange — were in Dallas, Texas, hometown of Anselmo's other band, groove-metal titans Pantera.

There, they played a heavyweight 13-song set, showcasing the grizzled chops of the "new" band's veteran players, who had cut their teeth in revered outfits including Corrosion of Conformity, Crowbar and Eyehategod, as well as the aforementioned Texas greats. On top of the musicians' experience, the songs, too, benefited from long gestation periods, some dating back to 1990 jam sessions between Anselmo and Keenan. Watch the powerhouse performance above, and check out the set list, with time codes, below.
