Watch Fiona Apple's Spellbinding Temple of the Dog Cover at Chris Cornell Tribute

Reclusive singer makes last-minute appearance to sing "All Night Thing"

Fiona Apple is a hard character to pin down. Her latest album came out way back in 2012, in keeping with her rare yet brilliant release schedule, and she's been largely absent from performing in any frequent capacity since that tour cycle ended many years back. In a last-minute addition, though, she was added to the star-studded lineup of last night's Chris Cornell tribute concert at Los Angeles venue The Forum and delivered a gripping performance showing that, even in her downtime, the singer's voice remains one of the most impressive out there.

When her time to take the stage came, she did so alongside Temple of the Dog members Brendan O'Brien, David Garza, Jeff Ament and Matt Chamberlain to perform "All Night Thing," a cut from the grunge supergroup's 1991 sole eponymous record. Apple's riveting movements and consuming vocal delivery steal the spotlight as she stomps and sways her way through the four-minute video above, taken from the side of the stage. Not much for banter, she finished the song and whispered a nearly inaudible "thank you" before exiting. Mic drop.
