Watch John Oliver Use Slipknot as Punchline for Trump Joke

'Last Week Tonight' host makes an unexpected comparison

Slipknot were the unlikely punchline of a joke on last night's episode of HBO's weekly political satire series "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver." Calm down, Maggots: the host wasn't taking shots at the band; rather, Corey Taylor and Co. were invoked in relation to President Donald Trump's recent, unsettling comments regarding the ongoing situation in North Korea, spoken to reporters at a photo op with military leaders last week. (Asked by the press what the gathering represented, POTUS remarked, "Maybe it's the calm before the storm.")

""For a start, no moment in the preceding nine months has been even remotely 'calm,''" joked Oliver, as a picture of Slipknot guitarist Mick Thomson popped up on the screen. "It's like we're two hours into a Slipknot concert, and they just said, 'Enough ballads, now we're gonna play one that rocks!'" So there you have it: Slipknot and American foreign policy, together in one place. Check out footage now. Speaking of Slipknot concerts, be on the lookout for the band's concert film Day of the Gusano, out in numerous formats on October 20th via Eagle Rock Entertainment.
