"Barbaric" punk track gets fittingly ferocious visual

Although Killer Be Killed is comprised of musicians who've done their time in punk and hardcore circles, those aren't the sensibilities that come to mind when one thinks about the crushing riffs and soaring anthems on their 2020 opus, Reluctant Hero. However, there is one song on that album, buried deep in the tracklist, where the metal supergroup suddenly launches into a grindy, punk-as-fuck assault.

That song is fittingly titled "Animus," and today the band have given the minute-long blast the violent visual it deserves. Its video features slashing swords, horseback warriors, gory battle scenes and footage of the group — Max Cavalera, Mastodon bassist-vocalist Troy Sanders, Converge/Mutoid Man/All Pigs Must Die drummer Ben Koller and former Dillinger Escape Plan/current Black Queen singer Greg Puciato — performing in a run-down building. Watch it above via YouTube.

In a statement, Cavalera said that "this song is the barbaric side of Killer Be Killed; 2 chords, raw as fuck! Take no prisoners!" Sanders added that it's "a cursory homage to the barbaric conquerors, the Huns!"
