Watch Marilyn Manson Join Eminem for Unhinged "The Way I Am" Performance in 2001

Shock rocker made a surprise appearance during rapper's concert in Germany

Back in 2001 — when Eminem and Marilyn Manson were two of the world's most controversial pop-culture figures — they joined forces for a collaborative version of Eminem's "The Way I Am" (from his 2000 album The Marshall Mathers LP) remixed by Nine Inch Nails' Danny Lohner. In the performance you see here, Manson joins Em onstage in Germany for a blazing run-through of the cut, which was filmed for the rapper's concert DVD Eminem: All Access Europe that chronicled the promotional tour for the album.

The unlikely two were far from strangers though, as Manson was not only name-dropped in the original track's lyrics, he made a cameo in the official video. You can see the gaunt singer looming behind the rapper during the referential lines "When a dude's getting bullied and shoots up his school / And they blame it on Marilyn / and the heroin" and several other points throughout.

Manson and Eminem would revisit the live collaboration again a few years after its initial release, this time in Barcelona and featuring several rappers from Eminem's crew. Watch that video below.
