Watch Marilyn Manson Share Crazy Celebrity Stories, Praise Lil Uzi Vert in Candid Interview

Antichrist Superstar dishes on new album, rehab, late father, more

With his new album Heaven Upside Down less than a month away, Marilyn Manson sat down for a candid, frequently crass interview with Zane Lowe on Beats 1. In a 30-minute excerpt from their chat (which can be streamed in full on Apple Music), the Antichrist Superstar told all about the forthcoming LP, his late father, his stint in rehab, his experiences as a subject in Michael Moore's documentary Bowling for Columbine, and much more.

Obviously, it wouldn't be a Marilyn Manson interview without some R-rated anecdotes. He recalled a time when he and famed author Hunter S. Thompson joined their pal Johnny Depp for an attempted defiling of the actor's shiny new Hollywood star, an attempt that ultimately failed: "The three of us could not muster up either shits or pisses," Manson explained matter-of-factly, "so we ended up going back home." The musician then recounted a jam session he held with Depp, Aerosmith's Joe Perry, and Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme, to whom Manson offered the following advice: "Do not make beats that confuse strippers." And that's all just in the first five minutes.

Elsewhere in the interview, Lowe asked Manson for his thoughts on the new generation of artists outside of the rock world who've cited the shock rocker as a muse: most notably, rapper Lil Uzi Vert. "He reminded me so much of me when I started," Manson said of the rapper, "Just his attitude: not careless, but very specifically 'Fuck you for this reason'; it's not just 'Fuck you all.'"

Heaven Upside Down hits shelves October 6th via Loma Vista. Last week, Manson shared a violent video for "WE KNOW WHERE YOU FUCKING LIVE," the album's lead single. His tour behind the record kicks off later this month in Silver Spring, Maryland.
