Faith No More frontman Mike Patton joined avant-garde master John Zorn for an intimate collaborative set at San Francisco venue the Chapel over the weekend. Together with Patton's Mr. Bungle compatriot Trey Spruance, the two musicians combined saxophones, synths, beatboxing vocals, and creepy effects into one transcendent clusterfuck of a performance, clocking in at over 40 minutes long.
This isn't the first time Patton, Zorn, and Spruance have joined forces. In addition to producing Mr. Bungle's self-titled debut, the experimental impresario tapped Patton as a guest vocalist several times throughout his career, most notably on the 1992 album Elegy; Zorn is also set to release MALKHUT — the upcoming record from Spruance's band Secret Chiefs 3 — as part of his 11-LP box set, Masada Book III: Beri'ah.
