Last night, August 31st, Mike Patton's Mondo Cane project — which released one album, 2010's self-titled offering, and specializes in covers of Italian pop love songs — played the first of two shows in Italy, backed by a 40-piece orchestra. The group preformed much of the Mondo Cane repertoire, but the highlight for most of the fans assembled was a surprise rendition of Mr. Bungle's "Retrovertigo," which Patton broke out for the encore. The tune appears on Bungle's swan song, California, which recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, and was notably covered by Bungle superfans Avenged Sevenfold. Patton, of course, is set to reunite with said avant-spazz-metal group next years, for six highly anticipated shows.
