Nine Inch Nails have been blazing across North America with fellow alternative-rock icons the Jesus and Mary Chain for the past several weeks, and now they've offered up a live video from that tour to accompany "Ahead of Ourselves," off the industrial trailblazers' most recent release, Bad Witch. Filmed in black and white to highlight the strobe-heavy NIN stage show, the clip's convulsive vibe blends well with the warm electronic sound and anxious, staccato backbeat of the song.
As the track reaches its cacophonous apex, the camera work becomes more and more chaotic, spinning into a disjointed blur of the band and audience while screeching feedback wails on over the solidified musical foundation. The short is fresh and exciting, arty without sacrificing visceral impact and evocative of Reznor's commitment to staying in tip-top performance shape.
He'll need that energy, as the tour is far from complete. Extending through mid-December, Reznor will be joined by notable talent such as California industrial outfit the Soft Moon and long-running U.K. electronic group Death in Vegas on select dates.
