Witness Alice Glass's Heartbreak Among Xmas Lights in New "I Trusted You" Video

A gorgeous, depressive walk through yuletide scenery highlights loneliness of track

Former Crystal Castles frontwoman and current solo artist Alice Glass has returned with "I Trusted You," another beautiful, airily trance-like single, this one confronting trust issues and betrayal. The minimalist electronic backdrop is the ideal vehicle for the singer's wispy, dreamy voice, punctuating the woeful lamentation with synthetic modulations that lift the track from the depths of sweet depressive ballad territory. Heartbreak is evident, but with a quiet strength that hints at a reckoning with the past.

Glass appears cloaked in black in the video, from lipstick to a leather trench coat with heavily nouveau goth vibes as she wanders through a landscape of bright, festive Christmas light displays. The juxtaposition between her appearance and the setting ensures the clip doesn't give off a vibe of taking itself too seriously, but simultaneously pings the disparate loneliness so many feel around this time of year. Beauty and chill coexist, celebration and liberation from abuse and mistrust filter through the weightless repetitions of the chorus.

While no plans for a full-length or follow-up to her debut 2017 self-titled solo EP have been announced, this is Glass' third single of 2017 and appears on the new Adult Swim compilation Fever Dreams alongside artists like Dance With The Dead, Carpenter Brut and Power Glove. She spent two months earlier this year touring with Zola Jesus, but no shows for 2019 are as-yet announced.
