Slayer have announced they have finished recording their latest studio album. The still untitled album will be the band's follow up to 2011's 'World Painted Blood,' and will also be the first album without the late founding guitarist Jeff Hanneman. Vocalist/bassist Tom Araya talks about Hanneman in a recent press release saying, "Jeff had always been writing and demoing songs, even up until shortly before he passed. You can tell by the quality of his songwriting that this was his passion. There will be a song written by Jeff on the new album. Everything but the vocals had been completed, so we did the vocals and it's done. And there are a few more of Jeff's songs that we might record and release in the future."

Guitarist Kerry King says "With this new album, Tom, Paul and I put all of our ideas out on to the table, working in a more collaborative way toward the ultimate heavy outcome. And I've got to give big props to Gary who played lead on several of the new songs. I think he got all of his leads done in one day - he's a maniac!"

The band have also announced "An Evening With Slayer" show dates, which will be Slayer only performances with no support. Dates can be found below:

April 24 - Iron City, Birmingham, AL
April 26 - Civic Theatre, New Orleans, LA
May 23 - Socorro Casino, El Paso, TX

Entry by guitarist Jessie Santos.

April 8- Dallas, T.X.
En route to Dallas from Houston, we prepare for our last House of Blues venue. Amazing venues with great sound systems, catering, and awesome staff. I've grown to love these venues even more so. We arrive early afternoon like we usually have been since the start of this tour and unload. Soundcheck went great; my lead tone is set in stone for the rest of the tour this night. (I was really happy with what I've got) With a nearly packed house, we tore up the stage and gave it our all. Additionally, I think we've really honed in our set at this point.

April 9 - off day
We had just finished our set at the House of Blues in Dallas, T.X. It was another successful night; played a killer set, winning over the crowd, and having some post-show drinks. We embarked on the long haul to Missouri to perform at a local radio station. We played an acoustic rendition of "Hope Within Hatred" and "Burning Regrets." This is our third (I believe) acoustic performance of these songs. We're getting better at it and I feel we're growing accustomed to rearranging our songs to accommodate an acoustic set. After our performance and well received response from the staff, we have the rest of the day left for us to do something. So we decided to BBQ outside the hotel's parking lot we booked for that night. Bought some fajitas (beef and chicken), some sausage, and ingredients for Robert's amazing guacamole. Had a good night, great rest, and got us ready for the next day's show.

April 10- Sauget, I.L.
Back in Illinois, a month after our video shoot for "Hope Within Hatred" that we filmed with the Victory Records team. The weather is beginning to drop and I'm very happy I had the brains to bring a sweater for this trip. We head out of the venue, Pop's. It was an old school style venue. A place where you have a large glass of beer and enjoy some metal for the night. Apparently, this part of Illinois is self-governed so alcohol laws were more than favorable to say the least, along with strip clubs around every corner. On this night we really broke the ice with Exodus and Testament. I even talked to Steve (bass, Testament) somewhat about a previous project of his entitled Soen. There was an ideal spot to fire up the pit and make some burgers for the guys. It was also Tom's (drummer, Exodus) birthday, so that gave us even more incentive to do something special. We made him a huge ass burger, sang happy birthday, and followed into the night with hanging out in Exodus' bus. A great night to say the least.

April 11- Joliet, I.L.
Hangover in full effect accompanied with a few hours of riding in the van to Joliet. I mentally prepare for that night's show. It would be our first time performing live for the Victory staff, not to mention the show was sold-out. I was nervous and anxiously anticipating our set. We sound checked and felt confident in our sound for the night. The venue was already a full house by the time we hit the stage, this was our most active crowd from my perspective. I'm busy concentrating on not sounding like a newbie. After our set and nailing my forehead with the microphone twice which left a nasty red mark, we hung out with the staff from Victory. We were shootin' the shit and having a great time and out of nowhere a large group run towards the back entrance with complaints of not being able to get in. Apparently, the venue oversold by over 400 tickets. Because of that, police and the Fire Marshall were present (I'm assuming to maintain order) The fiasco dissipated and we carried on hanging out, said our goodbyes. We ended the night with some badass Italian food just around the street and headed off to our next destination.

April 12- Detroit, M.I.
Without a doubt, this was a show I was nervous about—not for the crowd response or anything related to that, but that the venue was in a rather bad location in the city. I've heard horror stories of band van's getting broken into at that very venue. We had an armed guard, told not to leave the venue and some sound advice from Zetro (singer, Exodus) made this a situation not to take lightly. It was to my pleasant surprise, despite all the fear that has accumulated to levels of paranoia that the people who came out were some of the nicest people we've met on tour. I let my small-town mentality get the best of me on this but still heeded the warnings of my fellow tourmates. The venue (Harpo's) was a very frigid, dimly lit old building and you could really feel the age of the place. Almost a haunted vibe to it. We finished the night with a drive to our hotel in Grand Rapids along with a late night Taco Bell feast.

April 13- Grand Rapids, M.I.
Relieved to be out of Detroit's vicinity we prepare for the night's show in Grand Rapids. Already I could tell a polar difference from the previous gig. It was a college area I'm assuming where we played at (The Intersection) this place had the next best sound system on the tour so far and our sound engineer/tour manager Robert honed in on our live mix quite well. We had a great response from the crowd, a few of us got a few free drinks and despite my mess ups on some parts and being particularly gloomy from it for the next hour, the night ended in success. Visited a local brewery down the road and hung out in Testament's bus for a little bit. Van call was early the next morning so we headed out to get some much needed rest for the long drive ahead. Good thing the next day is an off day.

April 14- off day
We head to Niagara Falls today. Still half asleep, I stumble in the van to claim my corner in the back where I mostly reside. (Or in the dog house/chicken coop which happens to be just the last row in the van taken out and replaced by an assortment of pillows and sofa cushion randomly mashed together to mold to your body type. Most of the time it just ends in a kink neck or sore back but in the midst of tiredness you'll practically sleep anywhere.) Hours pass and we still have a couple more to arrive at our destination. I have the concoction of Subway, Hot Cheetos and a 12oz. Mountain Dew Slushie brewing in my belly along with reading Chuck Palahniuk's 'Rant,' which it's great so far. I just want to get there already, my knees are growing weary and my mind is slowly drifting into insanity. Is there a condition called road madness? Either way, this concludes my synopsis of the prior week for The Dark Roots of Thrash II Tour with Testament and Exodus and I thank you for reading this and soaking your eyeballs and mind into what goes on in the life of me, Jessie Santos, guitarist of Shattered Sun.
