Upheaval are a four-man wrecking crew from Boston, Massachusetts, who specialize in dramatic, blackened sludge metal — think Eyehategod by way of Mayhem after a cold New England winter. Last year, the band unleashed its self-released debut cassette, Summoning a Giant, an intriguing barnstormer that earned the attention of an unlikely ally: Nathan Williams, known to most as the prominent stoner pop-rocker Wavves. The self-proclaimed King of the Beach will release Upheaval's debut album, Altar of Ash, next year via his Ghost Ramp label.
