"The Devil Worships Me": The Dark, Magical Vision of Cholo Goth Duo Prayers

In October, we traveled to Gary, Indiana, to join Cholo Goth duo Prayers in the gorgeous ruins of an abandoned church, where they were filming the music video for "Edge of the Blade," a standout cut off their new LP Baptism of Thieves. There, and later back in their hometown of San Diego, frontman Leafar Seyer opened up about how music, magic and his creative relationship with producer Dave Parley — the "sun" to his "moon" — have helped him through hard times. He broke down some of his intensely personal lyrics and explained the meaning behind his and Parley's many tattoos. The result is a deep portrait of the much buzzed-about but still enigmatic force known as Prayers.
