ARCHITECTS' SAM CARTER hails SLEEP TOKEN: "They're just a brilliant band"

In 2020, Sam Carter posted on Twitter, "Who is the singer of Sleep Token? I need them to know I have a serious voice crush."

Getting an endorsement like that from the frontman of Architects — one of the biggest, most influential U.K. metalcore bands of all time — is no small peanuts. And that was back when Vessel and Co. were still navigating the small club circuit, before their 2021 album, This Place Will Become Your Tomb, was even announced.

Eventually, Carter got to meet the singer who made him swoon, as Sleep Token opened for Architects' U.K. headlining tour in the spring of 2022. A lot has changed since then, as Sleep Token are no longer proteges, but peers of Architects who share royalty status in the British metal kingdom. But one thing remains certain: Carter still loves Sleep Token, and Vessel's voice still gives him the warm and fuzzies.

"They're a very polite and quiet bunch of people but we're also quite a quiet bunch so it's a lovely match," he tells Revolver. "They've always come across like lovely people and I've got so much time for Vessel, he's such a talented singer. I always enjoy hearing him warm up. It always makes me want to be on the top of my game after hearing a singer I love get ready to play.

He adds: "I just think they're just a brilliant band. And also a fantastic live band! Their songwriting and production on their albums is always spot on. What I really love about them is that they're super heavy without having screaming all the time. They hit in the feels with those dark melodies and dark vibe. I'm really stoked to see them doing so well because they really deserve it."
