Last night (September 27th), rock royalty gathered in simultaneous celebration and mourning to honor the life of late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, who suddenly died earlier this year at age 50. Following the tribute show at London's Wembley Arena earlier this month, the L.A. event was the second of two star-studded performance spectacles featuring famous friends and admirers of Hawkins, and one of the highlights of the night was when surviving members of Nirvana and Soundgarden linked with Pretty Reckless frontwoman Taylor Momsen for a chilling cover of Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun."
The all-star lineup consisted of Nirvana's Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic, Soundgarden's Kim Thayil and Matt Cameron, and Nirvana touring member/former Foo Fighter/Germs guitarist Pat Smear. Together, and with Momsen on the mic, these Seattle grunge icons played an emotional rendition of the Soundgarden classic, which doubled as a tribute to Hawkins and the late Soundgarden crooner, Chris Cornell, allowing his presence to be there in spirit.
