Metallica's Kirk Hammett Picks 9 Favorite New Horror Movies

"These have something different to offer and have a degree of originality worth paying attention to"

As most Metallica fans know, Kirk Hammett is a horror movie connoisseur. When he's not ripping some of the best solos in metal history, he's studying the art of fright flicks new and old, and in a recent sit-down with Gibson TV, Hammett was asked to pick nine of his favorite contemporary horror films.

"These are current movies that I think are significant," Hammett said in the video's intro. "[They] have something different to offer [and] have a degree of originality that I think is worth paying attention to."

In no particular order, Hammett listed off the following films and offered a few thoughts on why each one deserves to be heralded by the horror community.

Gatlopp, directed by Alberto Belli
You Won't Be Alone, directed by Goran Stolevski
In Fabric, directed by Peter Strickland
A Dark Song, directed by Liam Gavin
The Evil Within, directed by Andrew Getty
Get Out, directed by Jordan Peele
Rigor Mortis, directed by Juno Mak
Tiny Cinema, directed by Tyler Cornack
Overlord, directed by Julius Avery
