"Creating this album slowly became two years of actual hell," says singer-guitarist Bijan Hennessey of Bostonian melodic death-metal up-and-comers My Missing Half. "These songs are the sounds of our lives falling apart in that time."
That unnamed turmoil lent its darkness to the group's new material, particularly their latest hard-edged offering "Before Waves and Rocks Catch Me." Echoing influences from the New Wave of American Heavy Metal that swept the scene in the early Aughts with its searing vocals and soaring guitar licks, the song is an updated pastiche of At the Gates–style melodeath with a blackened glaze that adds layer on layer of evil. The single comes with a stylish, straightforward video showcasing the trio throwing down in a sleek industrial space as the play of shadow and light around them underscores the unsettled ambience.
"Before Waves and Rocks Catch Me" comes from My Missing Half's upcoming full-length Ceaseless Decay, which will be self-released shortly via Bandcamp. The group have a handful of dates on their plate centered around their hometown until they make their way to Brooklyn metal mecca Lucky 13 on November 17th. See below for their upcoming itinerary.
