Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme put his own spin on the holiday classic "Silent Night" alongside Australian blues and country musician C.W. Stoneking, and the result is an unorthodox, upbeat good time that maintains the structure of the original carol but is decidedly on-brand for the desert-rock godfather.
Recorded during the band's 2017 Australian tour, a limited 7-inch will also be released next Friday, December 14th, with proceeds from the sales benefiting Homme's Sweet Stuff Foundation. The nonprofit, formed in 2013, assists musicians, sound engineers, and others in the trade affected by illness and disability.
Also streaming is Homme's collaboration with the Distillers' leader (and his wife) Brody Dalle for a reading of Christmas classic tale "'Twas the Night Before Christmas." The two trade off parts, with Homme adding humorous accents and inflections in truly dad-like style. The track also includes the couple's three young children chiming in periodically, making the whole ordeal a precious family-friendly good time.
