Just one day after surprising fans with "Chokehold," their first new song since 2021, Sleep Token have dropped another single, "The Summoning." On this one, the anonymous U.K. collective — who perform in masks and black hoods — lean into their heavier side, delivering pummeling djent-inflected riffage, while not eschewing their more idiosyncratic and melodic elements. There's the soaring angelic vocals, tinkling piano and electronic ambiance that set the band apart sonically, plus a totally left-field funky outro that throws listeners for a complete loop.
Like "Chokehold," "The Summoning" arrived with a sleek animated video showcasing an unnamed fantastical beast. The previous clip starred a strange arachnid creature decked out in sci-fi-looking armor and brandishing a badass axe. The visual for "The Summoning" displays some sort of warrior monster that appears to be part robot, part barbarian. Whatever it is, we're here for it. Watch and listen above.
