Industrial-metal band announce final album with late frontman's vocals and compositions

In 2020, a couple years after three-fourths of the original Static-X lineup reunited to tour with new singer Xer0, the band released the first batch of final recordings by the band's late frontman-guitarist, Wayne Static (who died in 2014). The album was called Project Regeneration: Vol. 1, and today (February 8th) they've announced that Vol. 2 is on its way, and that it will be the last set of unreleased vocals by the deceased nu-metal icon.

The first single Static-X are releasing from the project is a cover of Nine Inch Nails' industrial classic, "Terrible Lie."

Featuring Static's inimitable growl and the band's signature Evil Disco metal sound, this version of the Pretty Hate Machine standout is much heavier, faster, and more extreme than NIN's beloved original. According to a press release, Wayne's vocals for this cover were rescued from a collection of damaged audio tapes that the band discovered a few years back, so it's pretty amazing that they not only survived, but sound as lively as they do. Listen while you watch its music video above.

Project Regeneration: Vol. 2 contains 13 new songs that were sung and composed by the late frontman, with instrumental backing by Static-X's Wisconsin Death Trip-era lineup — bassist Tony Campos, guitarist Koichi Fukuda and drummer Ken Jay. It's due out November 3rd of this year, and pre-orders are available here.
