Hear THURSDAY's first new song in 13 years "Application for Release From the Dream"

Jersey post-hardcore band surprise-released single with just hours notice

Thursday's reunion phase has taken an interesting, amped-up turn, with the New Jersey post-hardcore legends having just delivered their first new song in more than a dozen years. Get ready to collapse into their emotional "Application for Release From the Dream," which is officially streaming now.

The song was announced by the band yesterday (April 11th), just a few hours ahead of their show at Albany, New York's Empire Underground. It marks a new chapter in Thursday's history, with the song — their first since reuniting in 2016 — being released independently by the band themselves.

"…now we are free," they explained in a lengthy statement. "Free to make our own mistakes. Free to turn this band into whatever we dream it to be, whether we want to make it a collective of rotating members, a small cottage industry, a publishing house, a record label, or just a group of friends still having fun together after all these years."

The song, which you can hear above, fits the overall Thursday M.O. — think emotionally distortion-frazzled melodies, quaked-out drums, and the familiar, powerfully crackling vocals of frontman Geoff Rickly. It was put together by original Thursday members Rickly, Steve Pedulla (guitar), Tim Payne (bass), and Tucker Rule (drums), but also marks the studio debut of recent touring guitarist Norman Arenas (Texas is the Reason). The song was produced by Stu Richardson, who is likewise Thursday's current touring bassist and Rickly's bandmate in No Devotion.

"Application For Release From the Dream" is the first bit of new music from the band since the release of 2011's No Devolución. It's unclear what's next from Thursday, in terms of new music, but the band have a handful of tour dates coming up, which you can see here.
