Big-band brass collective and heavy music aficionados Brass Against are back with another badass cover, this time of Rage Against the Machine's Grammy-nominated classic "No Shelter," and the outfit manage to stay true to the spirit of the original while infusing it with some jazzed-up elements and an impressive display of rapping and singing from frequent collaborator Sophia Urista.
The arrangement for this take, as assembled by Brad Hammonds and Andrew Gutauskas, features Urista and eight backing musicians delivering intricate yet expressive parts to create an enormous sound in the Brass Against NYC studio. Professionally-shot footage focuses in on each musical section, highlighting the individual and collective talents of the group.
The latest pairing with Urista marks Brass Against and the singer's sixth collaboration on Rage Against the Machine songs alone; past performances include well-known titles like "Sleep Now in the Fire" and "Guerilla Radio." Hammonds said in a video message about the band's mission, "We created this band to play songs by our favorite bands that have a political message to hopefully inspire you to get out and vote, give money to charity, or just rock the fuck out."
