If you're confused about what's going on with Rage Against the Machine, you're not alone. Even bassist Tim Commerford is in the dark.

Early this year, the rap-metal trailblazers' drummer, Brad Wilk, seemed to make the band's future — or lack thereof — very clear, when he posted on social media that RATM "will not be touring or playing live again." But the group have yet to make any official statement confirming or denying his claim, which has left the question hanging — and fans still clamoring for a return.

In a new interview with Rolling Stone about his current project and musical focus, 7D7D, Commerford said that he's as unsure of RATM's future as fans are.

"I don't know. I don't get involved in that," he said when asked if the band is, in fact, over. "I'm the bass player. I just wait for someone to tell me what to do. Brad said what he said, but he's one step above me. He's in the No. 3 spot. I am the low man on the totem pole. That's all I can tell you. I'm the bass player. The bass players always are the last people to find out about shit like that."

As to whether he would return to RATM if they were to pick the reunion tour back up, well, of course, Commerford would. "When the Rage light gets shined up in the clouds, like the Bat-Signal that Batman would see and would know that he had to go do some shit… that's how I live it. And that feels the best for me," the bassist said. "This is the first time in my life that I've been able to really remove myself from it and be like, 'Yeah, I live off the grid.' And that in itself is enough."

7D7D released their latest single, "Insignia," earlier this month — you can hear it below.
