See Mastodon Play Sludgy Cover of Alice in Chains' "Again"

Prog-sludge titans paid tribute to grunge giants in 2020

On December 1st, 2020, Seattle's Museum of Pop Culture held its annual benefit as a livestream, honoring hometown icons Alice In Chains. The star-studded show featured a mini-set from AIC themselves, as well as several other performances of the grunge giants' songs by famous fans including Metallica, Mastodon, Smashing Pumpkins, Korn, Slipknot's Corey Taylor and many more.

One of the best covers of the event was delivered by progressive metal stalwarts Mastodon. The Atlantan quartet took on AIC's single "Again," the sixth track on the Seattle sons' 1995 self-titled album, their final studio LP with the late, great Layne Staley. Mastodon are well suited to the sludgy song, and they brought their own Alice-esque aptitude for burly riffery and hooky melody to the performance. Watch above.
