Metallica are celebrating the release week of their newest album, 72 Seasons, with a four-night residency on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Last night (April 10th) marked the first performance of their stay, and the band kicked off the series by ripping through 72 Seasons' lead single, "Lux Æterna," and talking about the unexpected resurgence of "Master of Puppets," which became a viral hit after appearing in an episode of Stranger Things last summer.

"We wrote that song for Stranger Things in, what, 1980-something," Hetfield joked during the sit-down portion with Kimmel. "We knew it was gonna happen!"

Kimmel revealed that the band will be playing that 1986 ripper on Wednesday night's broadcast, but they kicked off the 72 Seasons-themed residency with "Lux Æterna," which you can watch above via YouTube. See the interview portion of last night's show below.

Metallica's run on Kimmel will air on ABC through Thursday April 13th, and will feature "four live performances, one night of chatting on the couch, and whatever fun Jimmy has in store for us."

72 Seasons is out Friday April 14th, 2023 via the band's own Blackened Recordings. You can pre-order it here.
