Duo celebrated David Gilmour's birthday, and threw in a bonus Kansas cover, during Kansas City, Missouri show

Metallica's extensive WorldWired Tour rolled through Kansas City, Missouri last night (March 6th), and bassist Robert Trujillo once again joined lead guitarist Kirk Hammett for their two-man "doodle" to perform Pink Floyd's 1979 track "Run Like Hell" in tribute to the classic rock outfit's singer/guitarist David Gilmour on his 73rd birthday.

Playing in the darkened round with spotlights blasting down on them, the performance was one of the more sleekly and rehearsed from the twosome's duet series. Sharing vocal duties and pulling off fairly complex parts that gave a much fuller sound than expected, the professionally shot clip captures Trujillo and Hammett's skillful rendition in graceful glory before the two high-five, hug, and run off stage to prepare for the next full band portion of the show.

The two also kept with their tradition of playing a song relevant to the local area's namesake and history by taking on a stripped down version of Kansas's classic rock radio staple "Carry On My Wayward Son." Their instrumental take on the track included a noodly solo by Hammett, jazzing up the brief but excellent take.
