Yet another sonic heel-turn from the post-genre phenom

Poppy never rests for long between projects. After dropping two very different release in 2021 (the crushing EAT EP and the catchy Flux LP), the genre-morphing phenom returned in fall 2022 with a new EP called Stagger that explored punk, trip-hop and more. Today (April 4th), Poppy is following that up with yet another sonic pivot, a banging industrial-pop song called "Church Outfit" that sounds unlike anything she's done since her 2020 pop-metal hybrid, I Disagree

"Life is a commercial for death," Poppy grimly intones during the spine-tingling hook, while pulsating bass and rattling drums pound behind her voice. At once austere and alluring, the two-minute knocker is yet another fascinating heel turn from one of our generation's most unpredictable figures.
