See Tool Play Two New Songs "Invincible," "Descending" at Welcome to Rockville

Prog-metal titans debut first full-fledged songs in over 10 years

The wait for bona fide new Tool music is over: As they teasingly suggested that they would do last week, the prog-metal titans played new material — not just one but two new songs — "Invincible" and "Descending" during their May 5th headlining set at the Welcome to Rockville festival in Jacksonville, Florida. The group had publicly planted the seeds of the big live unveiling on Wednesday (May 1st), with guitarist Adam Jones first posting a video of him playing a #Bitesize snippet of "Descending," and then singer Maynard James Keenan and the official Tool account sharing via Twitter a very funny meme portraying the band, complete with thought balloons, as they pondered debuting new material on their coming tour.

Between Wednesday and Sunday, Tool's last album, 10,000 Days, turned 13 years old on Thursday (May 2nd), making the premiere of new music a particularly momentous affair, as the band members were clearly aware. Both Jones and Keenan poked fun at the long wait with the hashtags to their respective teaser posts: #MakingDreamsComeTrue #TheFastingIsOver (Jones), #whileyouwerewhiningwewereworking (Keenan). See fan-shot footage of the new songs above and below.
