Last night, November 30th, Slayer played the final show of their "Final Campaign" — the concluding leg of their farewell world tour — at the Forum in Los Angeles, the second of two consecutive concerts there. The thrash titans' whirlwind victory lap kicked off on May 10th, 2018, and took them through over 30 countries and 40 American states across more than 140 gigs, "with the band's intention to play as many places as possible to make it easy for the fans to see one last Slayer show and say goodbye," the group explained in a joint statement.
Considering the extended build-up, last night's show was a wild, cathartic, bittersweet event. As they have at all the Final Campaign shows, Philip H. Anselmo & the Illegals (playing only Pantera classics), Ministry and Primus opened the festivities, but of course, the night belonged to Slayer. Tom Araya, Kerry King, Gary Holt and Paul Bostaph tore through an epic 20-song set, with famous friends including Metallica's Kirk Hammett, actors Jason Momoa and Joe Manganiello, pop star Post Malone, Anthrax's Scott Ian and Charlie Benante, King Diamond and more taking in the performance and then partying with the band members backstage.
"Thank you. Thank you very much," Araya said to the reverent crowd at the end of the show. "I want to thank you for sharing your time with us. Time is precious. So I thank you for sharing that time with us. Thank you. I'm gonna miss you guys. But the most important thing I want to thank you for being a part of my life. Thank you. Good night. You guys be safe."
