Birmingham, England–based Creature have released a ferocious new song and accompanying music video for "Witch's Grip" — which, clocking in just under two minutes, evokes the chaos and energy of groups like Every Time I Die, Converge and Kvelertak.
"'Witch's Grip' is a metaphor for the feeling of isolation, anxiety and confusion a person can feel at their lowest," says lead vocalist-guitarist James Thompson. "Experiencing self-doubt can cause us to grieve for a life that once felt less complicated. So the song is very much an internal monologue, questioning all and looking for answers or respite."
"The protagonist [is] chasing the version of herself she wishes she was," Thompson continues of the video's theme, "leading her into the woods and ultimately a mental abyss."
The track comes from the trio's upcoming debut EP, Hex, due May 3 on their own Grey Ghost Records. You can pre-order it now. Hex is produced by Steve Sears (Gallows, Krokodil), and features artwork designed by illustrator Luke Preece who has worked with Metallica, Marvel, Lucasfilm and more.
