See bloody first trailer of controversial 'THE CROW' reboot

Soundtracked by Ozzy and Post Malone's emo-rap collab song

Last month, we got a first look of the upcoming reboot of the The Crow. Now, the first official trailer has landed on our screens.

The remake of the 1994 cult-classic film stars Bill Skarsgård as undead anti-hero Eric Draven and alternative R&B star FKA Twigs as his lover Shelly Webster. Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman, Ghost in the Shell, Foundation) is directing, and Zach Baylin, who nabbed an Oscar nomination for King Richard, penned the script.

In the stills shared last month, we got to see how Skarsgård's getup compares to Brandon Lee's iconic look in the beloved original. In the three-minute trailer, we get to see plenty more shots of the costumes and set designs, as well as a taste of the uber-bloody action and dramatic plot line. We also get a tease of what the soundtrack for this version of The Crow might entail.

The song in the trailer is Post Malone and Ozzy Osbourne's 2019 collab song "Take What You Want From Me," a bleary emo-rap tune that prominently recontextualizes Ozzy's voice in a non-metal setting.

The original Crow soundtrack is also cult-adored; it boasts the Cure, Nine Inch Nails, Stone Temple Pilots, Pantera and many other Nineties goth, metal and grunge titans. Posty's song being in the trailer — along with the look of Skarsgård's mulleted, tatted-up version of Draven, which nods to rappers like Lil Peep and $uicideboy$ — suggests that this soundtrack might take a more modern emo-rap approach.

In a new statement, Skarsgård opened up about taking on the role of Draven in the already-controversial adaptation.

"I was a huge fan of the original film growing up as a kid and was so honored to take on the role of Eric Draven," he said, according to Bloody Disgusting. "But really what drew me to it was what Rupert Sanders wanted to do with it.

"He wanted to completely re-imagine the story and the character and tailor it towards a modern audience. It's a character that I know many revere and have a strong connection to — he is unlike any I've ever taken on before.

"Working with the remarkably talented FKA Twigs was magical. I felt a responsibility to Eric's story and endeavored to stay true to the spirit of the source material; I can't wait for the world to see the film, and hope it resonates with audiences as strongly as it did with those of us involved."

So what does Alex Proyas, director of the original Crow movie, think of the reboot? He hasn't said much publicly, but he did notably joke of the first images of Skarsgård that "Eric Draven's having a bad hair day."

The Crow reboot hits theaters June 7th.
