It happened. It really happened. Yesterday (September 21st), news broke that Ghost frontman Papa Emeritus IV would throw the ceremonial first pitch at the White Sox vs. Cleveland Guardians game today, and the metal internet did a collective spit take. Papa and his Nameless Ghouls have been on a mainstream-crossover rampage lately, going viral on TikTok and storming the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, both with their far-beyond-catchy Seventies-psychedelic-style tune "Mary on the Cross." But the first pitch at an MLB game? What would Papa even wear for such an occasion?
We've gotten our answer. The Ghost singer stepped onto the plate at Guaranteed Rate Field today, sporting a full-on White Sox uniform and looking very much like one of the Baseball Furies in cult movie The Warriors, and tossed the promised pitch. And he didn't do half bad — for a Swede, or a Satanic rockstar pope, for that matter. Watch above and below.
