If March's "Nobody" was a little too straightforward and radio-friendly for you, you're in luck. In contrast to the polarizing lead single off Avenged Sevenfold's highly anticipated new album, Life Is but a Dream..., single No. 2, "We Love You," is a totally head-spinning, jaw-dropping metallic rollercoaster ride right out of the Mike Patton playbook.
It's no secret that the Avenged dudes worship at the feet of Patton, especially his everything-but-the-kitchen-sink avant-metal band Mr. Bungle, and "We Love You" channels the frenetic, delirious no-rules mania of that project brilliantly here. There're droning chanting sections, Slayer-esque thrash parts, schmaltzy crooning, weird electronic swells, guitar pyrotechnics, acoustic strums, woo-woo backing vocals, slide fucking guitar and in-your-face commentary on our "more is more" culture. Shit is nuts, and we here at Revolver HQ dig it.
Life Is but a Dream... is due out June 2nd. Before then — in fact, tonight (May 12th), A7X are set to play their first show in five years, in the A-lot at AREA15 in Las Vegas.
