Hear DEICIDE's blasphemous new ripper "Sever the Tongue"

Floridian death metal from old-school masters

Closing out 2023, Floridian extremists Deicide celebrated Christmas with a blast of blasphemous entitled "Bury the Cross...With Your Christ." Now, Glenn Benton and Co. are commemorating Ash Wednesday with another sacrilegious screed, "Sever the Tongue." (Choice lyrics: "Wrath of the holy/God is no more/Satan possess me/No savior reborn/Fuck your religion/Sever the tongue.")

The song arrived accompanied by a gory and, of course, anti-Christian music video. Watch and listen above.

Benton commented succinctly: "A life undone on the crucifix hung… sever the tongue..."

Like "Bury the Cross...With Your Christ," the new single will appear on Deicide's lucky 13th album, Banished by Sin, the follow-up to 2018's Overtures of Blasphemy, which is set for release on April 26th via Reigning Phoenix Music.

"I've been sitting in a dark corner for several years now," Benton said of the album. "A few things have come into my life that have shaken and changed me. I got inspired writing this new record — it was like flipping a switch. I no longer have the aggravation of other peoples' hangups interfering with what I have and want to do. I stopped chasing everybody else's happiness a long time ago. The guy who started this shit is back! And it's good to be back!"
