Most people know Keanu Reeves for his starring roles in the Matrix, Bill & Ted, John Wick and other Hollywood blockbusters, but for a long time, Reeves also moonlit as a musician.

Back in the Nineties and early 2000s, the esteemed actor played bass in a grunge band called Dogstar, who recently reunited and are about to release their first new music in over 23 years.

Last summer, Dogstar created an Instagram account to announce "we're back," and since then, they've been posting behind-the-scenes photo and video updates of their time in the studio.

The band have been working on their first album since their 2000 sophomore effort, Happy Ending, and in a new Instagram update, they've confirmed that they'll begin rolling out new music this coming summer.

"Thank you everyone for the kind comments. We are overjoyed to see such a response," the band wrote alongside a new promo photo. "Honestly, didn't expect this. It makes us want to play out even more.

"We will be rolling out some new music this summer, followed by some gigs. As soon as it's all figured out we will let everyone know immediately. So much to do, but rest assured, we are on it and have assembled a fantastic team that are helping us.

"We are also going to make a music video to support our first tune. That's all I can say now. Can't wait to share our new music with everyone. It's the most satisfying and meaningful batch of songs we've ever done. Thanks again for being so patient with us. We truly have the best, most loyal fans!"

Late last year, the band played at least one private show "for the incredible people who made our new album possible," but it seems like they're ready to return to the public stage in the near future. Stay tuned for more info.

Some metalheads might remember Dogstar for their notoriously hated set at Milwaukee Metal Fest in 1992, where the band got "killed" onstage but still had a great time.

"We played Milwaukee Metal Fest. Got killed," Reeves remembered in a 2019 interview. "I think we played close to Murphy's Law. Imagine. So we played a Grateful Dead cover, at Milwaukee Metal Fest.

"We were like, 'They hate us. What are we doing here? What can we do? Let's do the Grateful Dead cover,'" Reeves continued while laughing. "They were just like, Fuck you, you suck. I had the biggest grin on my face, man."
