See KEANU REEVES' band DOGSTAR play first show in 20 years

Grunge crew debuted new songs at BottleRock Fest in Napa Valley

Earlier this month, Revolver reported that Keanu Reeves' long-dormant grunge band Dogstar were prepping their first new material in more than 23 years. Shortly thereafter, the group announced their first public show in over two decades, and now it's happened.

On May 27th, Dogstar returned to the stage at the BottleRock music festival in Napa Valley, California, where they played a full set's worth of new, unreleased music.

The 12-song set was Dogstar's — bassist Reeves, singer-guitarist Bret Domrose and drummer Rob Mailhouse — first gig since 2002, and while they have two full-length albums to their name, 1996's Our Little Visionary and 2000's Happy Ending, the group didn't appear to play any material from those releases.

Instead, they debuted songs from their upcoming reunion record, which the band opened up about in a new interview with Billboard.

"I think all three of us just said, 'Well, if we're going to do this, let's make a record,''" Reeves said of the intent behind their reformation. Dogstar hired producer David Trumfio (Wilco, Built to Spill) to work on the new record, and the members describe it sound as something that will satisfy old and new Dogstar fans alike.

"[Dave] understood where we were coming from," Mailhouse told Billboard, "and worked really well with Bret, layering guitars and doing lots of different sounds and ambient things — things that weren't just hard rock, in-your-face music, [but] a little more textural."

So far there's no public release date or additional info about the album , but it's coming. For now, watch videos from Dogstar's big reunion show above and below via YouTube.
