As Apocalyptica make their way around the country with Sixx:AM and Vamps in support of their new album, 'Shadowmaker,' they will blogging about their experiences for Revolver.

Entry by Franky Perez.

Hello, my name is Franky Perez. Over the years I've sung for numerous projects, among them Slash & Friends, Camp Freddy, Kings of Chaos as well as my own band The Truth. I'm probably best known for my time in Scars on Broadway where I played guitar along side Daron and John of System of A Down. Currently I am the new singer of "your favorite Finnish cello metal band"... Apocalyptica (fuck, that's a mouthful)! Our new album 'Shadowmaker 'is due to be released on April 21 and we've hit the road to promote it. We're kicking it all off with our boy Nikki Sixx's band Sixx:A.M., and Japan's own Vamps. Over the next couple of weeks I'll be checking in with you from the road and letting you in on what life is like as we make our way through North America on the Modern Vintage tour.

The first week of the tour kicked off at the Regency Theater in beautiful San Francisco. Before the first band on the bill (Vamps) took the stage, all three bands on the tour met in an empty room beneath the venue for a quick intro between bands and a photo to commemorate the kickoff of the tour. I've seen this scene before... everyone smiley and optimistic the room filled with the sounds of the "good lucks" and the "I cant wait to see your sets" but sadly, nine outta 10 times bands and crews are "mother-fucking" each other by the end of the first week. It may be to soon to tell but I think that won't be the case here. Every band on this tour has made their bones, paid their dues, and are happy to be at the party.

San Fran went off without a hitch. The venue was top-notch, the crowd was amazing (which included Lars Ulrich a long time friend of Apocalyptica), and all three bands tore the PA apart at the seams... What a great way a to start a tour!

Next stop ... The Joint in My home town Las Vegas! I would bet that between Ashba (who lives in LV) and I, we probably made up for 95% of the guest list. The joint is a big room inside of the hard rock Hotel and Casino. All three bands have a nice following in Vegas so the room was nearly full before the opening act took the stage. Being that we're direct support for Sixx:A.M., my band Apocalyptica has the difficult job of following Vamps who bring it with Japanese precision every night and then having to hold our own before the headliners take the stage. I'm proud to say that the Fins and I did not disappoint. The fans were as enthusiastic about the new material we played from our upcoming release 'Shadowmaker' as they were Apocalyptica's older material. After a kick-ass show the boys and I all headed over to my buddy Brett's hotel the Tuscany where we ate, gambled a little bit, and watched Vegas all star cover band Tinitus. The bus picked us up in Valet at 2 A.M. and from there we jumped on to the moonlit I15 to make our way to L.A. for the last show of the week.

In L.A. we played Club Nokia to a packed house who included my buddies Duff, Billy Duffy, and Bob Rock.. The PA in Nokia is pristine and clear as a bell which leaves no room for scrubs. By the reaction of the capacity filled room all three bands showed up with their A-game.

With the first week of The Modern Vintage tour behind us and with no fist fights breaking out between bands or crew (which would be massacre because rumor has it that the boys of Vamps moonlight as ninjas), every thing is good in the twisted world known as a rock 'n' roll tour.

Listen and request our new single "Cold Blood" on your local radio station and look out for our new album 'Shadowmaker' due April 21.

Horns up wheels down,
Franky

Oceans Ate Alaska's guitarist Jibs enjoys toying around with bartending and makes drink recipes with band themes. Check out his Real Friends-inspired recipe for "I Don't Love You Anymore" below.

"I Don't Love You Anymore"

  • Cherry Brandy
  • Creme De Cassis (black currant liquor)
  • Chambord (raspberry liquor)
  • Lime juice
  • Start with muddling 4-5 raspberries in the base of the glass.
  • Shake the ingredients and strain over crushed ice, top with soda.
  • Garnish with a raspberry and mint leaf. The name of the cocktail influenced the ingredients. I wanted to make something bittersweet so the bitterness of the soda fights against the sweetness of the alcohol, all connotations of relationships!

Oceans Ate Alaska's new album, 'Lost Isles,' is out now via Fearless Records. Check out their music video for "Vultures and Sharks" below.
