Do you believe in manifest destiny? Gatecreeper apparently do, having just previewed their forthcoming Dark Superstition with one of the most appropriately-titled metal songs of the year thus far: "Masterpiece of Chaos."
The latest taste of Dark Superstition isn't leaning into the melody as much as the death 'n' roll vibe of previous single "Superstitious Vision." Instead, Gatecreeper knuckle into a crypt-lurch groove, doom-drippin' OSDM licks and pinch-squealed punctuations — at least before the band dial up the mania into overdrive. Vocalist Chase Mason agitates the piece with a few tasty lil' Tom G. Warrior grunts, to boot.
"'Masterpiece of Chaos' is a nightmarish vision of a broken mirror with an ominous creature that lives within the fragmented web of glass," Mason commented. "It sonically contrasts and compliments the more melodic approach we took to some of the other songs."
As previously reported, Dark Superstition is out May 17th through Nuclear Blast, and Gatecreeper will be supporting the album across North America both as support on In Flames' spring tour and as the headliners on a run of their own.
