2024 might finally be the year that we get new Down music.

The NOLA sludge supergroup — currently Philip Anselmo (Pantera), Kirk Windstein (Crowbar), Pepper Keenan (Corrosion of Conformity), Jimmy Bower (Eyehategod) and Patrick Bruders (ex-Crowbar) — haven't released any material since 2014's Down IV - Part II EP, but Windstein just shared a promising update from the writing room.

"So…we kinda wrote two Down songs today!" the guitarist wrote in a post on Facebook. In the accompanying photo, Windstein and Keenan are holding their axes, and the pic is snapped from behind the drum kit; so presumably, Bower was there for the instrumental writing sesh.

That's all we know for now, but it's a pretty significant development in the world of Down. Anselmo is of course quite busy these days with the newly-reformed Pantera, and all the other band members have other projects going on, which makes writing new Down material a slow process.

Last fall, Windstein told Loaded Radio that they'd been kicking around the idea of a covers EP for a while, but that they were having trouble narrowing down a tracklist.

"We threw around like a hundred songs and we can't pick and choose any of them," Winsdstein said. "So, to me, it's easier to just go, 'Hey, guys, let's get in the fucking room and just write some shit.'

"Come out with six songs and do an EP. So I hope that that's what happens."

If this new update is any indiciation then it looks like Windstein's wish has come true. We'll have to wait and see where it goes from here.

So...we kinda wrote 2 Down songs today!!!
