Metallica are celebrating the release week of their newest album, 72 Seasons, with a four-night residency on Jimmy Kimmel Live! On Monday night they played the album's lead single, "Lux Æterna," on Tuesday they ripped through the "Black Album" classic "Holier Than Thou," and last night (April 12th) they unleashed a fiery performance of "Master of Puppets."

If you're wondering why Metallica are playing a song from 1986 on live television in 2023, you were probably sleeping under a rock last year when the thrash staple was used in an episode of Netflix's Stranger Things, introducing it to a whole new generation of music fans who rocketed the eight-minute epic into the Billboard charts for an unlikely mainstream resurgence.

Last night, Metallica played the song just like they always have — fast, ferocious and fun as hell. Watch the performance above via YouTube.

Metallica's run on Kimmel will end tonight, and 72 Seasons finally drops tomorrow (April 14th) via the band's own Blackened Recordings. You can pre-order it here.
